Historical maps of Brecon and Hay-on-Wye

£11.99

Located in Wales close to the border with England, Brecon and its near neighbour, Hay-on-Wye, have been important trading towns since the Norman conquest of Brycheiniog. Both towns preserve traces of their medieval past, overlaid with later Georgian and Victorian developments which give the modern towns their distinctive and charming appearance. Based on OS mapping, this map shows the different historical layers underlying the modern streetscapes. The map brings to life two Marcher towns, fourteen miles apart and today quite different in their size and purpose, but sharing a history of border warfare, ecclesiastical importance, and commercial significance.
